Hair Thinning

Thinning hair is a concern for women and men alike, but it’s important to understand the different types and causes in order to promote stronger, healthier hair. Sudden, temporary hair thinning often results from factors such as stress, dietary deficiencies, post-pregnancy hormonal changes or medications, while progressive hair thinning is usually genetic. Wellness Med Art offers a new highly effective treatment for both types of hair thinning.

Physiology of Hair

The hair-growth cycle consists of three distinct stages.

The Anagen Phase

Roughly 90% of the hair is in the anagen phase at any given point in time. During this stage, the hair follicles are extremely active, with cells dividing rapidly to add length to the hair shaft. This phase can range from two to seven years, and is generally genetically predetermined.

The Catagen Phase

This stage marks the transition from active growth to shedding. During this phase, the hair follicle shrinks and the hair bulb rises closer to the scalp’s surface in preparation for shedding. The catagen stage averages three weeks.

The Telogen Phase

During the final stage of the hair-growth cycle, mature hairs are fully grown and their anchor to the scalp begins to weaken. New hair follicles begin to form, in turn pushing older hairs out of the scalp, causing them to shed. This phase can last from three to five months, and it’s common to lose about 100 hairs per day.
